Here's 5 minutes' worth of randomness where you'll be able to keep up with what's going on for me, without having to pretend to be my "friend".

Dim and Distant

I’m talking about the past, not me. At this time of year we’re encouraged to reflect on times gone by, and the one place I could always guarantee to find something from back then was my attic. So a recent trawl uncovered a dusty old tape box, containing both a Betamax and VHS tape from my Degree Show. For those of you under 50, these were the precursors of Netflix and streaming on demand…

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to get the VHS digitised and see just how great my degree show was. I studied for and got myself a BA Hons in Graphic Design, with a focus on multimedia and Promo Music Videos for my thesis.

*Ear-Worm Alert: watching either of the clips below will get this tune stuck in your brain for a month – minimum.

So I present to you from 1982, English Country Cheeses (why did Disney never get back to me?) prepared in under 3 months by a willing team of inebriated art students; followed by the 2025 update, prepared in under 4 months by one man and his Apple Macs and gallons of coffee. Enjoy.

Attention to detial

See what I did there? Maybe it’s all the years of proof-reading 6pt type on pharmaceutical packaging, or maybe it’s just genetic but I can’t help spotting this sort of typo.

And in the era of spell-checking and pre-print production systems, things should not really slip through the net. However, this catalogue arrived yesterday.

Thank goodness it was only on the cover. And who else spotted the 2 character spaces before the artist’s name?

Having politely mentioned it to Wentworth I can confirm that no free puzzles were forthcoming.

The Artificial Intelligence Dilemma

You’ll see lots of social media posts these days scare-mongering about the threat of AI taking over in the workplace. The balancing view gets less traction, indicating that AI has the potential to free us from certain mundane tasks and increase our productivity.

But it’s not about whether the technical ability is there to create a realistic video of Eddie Murphy eating spaghetti, or if you can manipulate a photograph from the Covid era to seamlessly remove face masks from people.

The key issue here is intelligence, artificial or otherwise. It is up to us in the creative sector to choose how and when to make use of AI; it’s just another tool available to us.

Some days I’d be grateful for a small helping of simple organic intelligence – from tech companies, clients, the general public…

Blog, vlog Or Twaddle?

In an attempt to keep the website refreshed I will be adding the occasional thought here. It might be design related. It might be a random rant. It might well be a combination of the above.

So, as a start, here’s a personal snippet. I have recently started a Just Giving page to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. To find out more, click this link:

And if you are able to donate to this very worthwhile cause I would be very grateful.
